06-11-2025 - In the 1980s, someone tried to sell the City of Wichita Falls a surplus Bell UH-1 "Huey" helicopter. A WFPD officer, a helicopter pilot in an earlier life, went up for a test flight. The City wisely turned down the deal. I'm sure the cost to maintain that machine would have been greater than any benefit realized. I have 30 seconds of "stick time" in a Bell Jet Ranger so I'm an expert!

06-11-2025 - 5:45 AM - According to Water Data for Texas, Wichita Falls reservoirs are: Arrowhead: 100% Kemp: 100% Kickapoo: 100%. Monitored Water Supply Reservoirs are 100% full. The City of Wichita Falls uses combined levels of Arrowhead and Kickapoo (100%) to determine drought stage.

06-11-2025 - 5:45 AM - ERCOT (Texas) snapshot of grid conditions - ERCOT reports that conditions are normal and there is enough power for current demand with an operating reserve of 8,353 Megawatts.

06-11-2025 - 5:45 AM - NWS Forecast - Today: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before noon, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 4pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 82. Light east southeast wind becoming south southeast 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. Tonight: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 7pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 7pm and 4am, then a chance of showers after 4am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. Southeast wind 6 to 9 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

06-11-2025 - 5:30 AM - Good Morning! The Texas Rangers beat the Minnesota Twins 16 to 4 last night. The Rangers have a long way to go to compensate for all those recent losses! I received the latest issue of the "Yellow Page" directory. It covers Wichita Falls, Burkburnett, Henrietta, and Iowa Park, and it's not much thicker than an old Superman comic book! A standard #2 school pencil is thicker. I don't know what to think about that. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.

06-10-2025 - It was 1970 when, on a Saturday morning, a small contingent of Hirschi High School R.O.T.C. cadets assembled near the Sheppard A.F.B. Main Gate on Burkburnett Road. The mission: hike to Burkburnett and back to the Sheppard Main Gate. The reward: a teeny weeny ribbon to place on your uniform. A ribbon you had to give back at the end of the year. We made the hike to Burk and stopped at the first place where we could sit down and enjoy a soft drink. Don't ask about the anti-Burk football team cadence calls on the way out of town. We were lucky to make it out alive.

06-10-2025 - 5:45 AM - Good Morning! It's Tuesday and the Clay County Amateur Radio Club conducts a weekly Skywarn® practice net on Tuesdays at 8:00 PM on the 146.800 MHz repeater. Tune in with your scanner radio! In other news, Jeffery Jenkins is the new Wichita Falls City Manager. A man was killed after being struck by a boat propeller at Possum Kingdom Lake. The boat operator was charged with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle. The Olney Police Chief will become the Vernon Police Chief. Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick will hold a press conference at 2:55 PM at the Wichita Falls Regional Airport. Why 2:55 PM? Why not 3:00 PM? Asking for a friend. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready!

06-09-2025 - It's 5:30 PM, and the local group is on the air on CB Radio Channel 23. The band is quiet this evening, and that makes for easier listening. At least, that's my opinion. There have been days when stations in Jamaica have "cut the lips off" stations in Wichita Falls. I'll bet the Jamaican station has a high electric bill, and that's all I'll say about that!

06-09-2025 - The Multi-Use Radio Service frequency of 151.880 MHz has been busy in Wichita Falls this past week. Tune in with your scanner radio and find out what they're discussing.

06-09-2025 - 3:43 PM - I contacted a station in Pilot Mountain State Park (US-2750) in North Carolina on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program. POTA hunter count: 535.
