06-13-2025 - 5:20 AM Good Morning! It's Friday, but every day is the end (or beginning) of the week for me. It depends on my mood. My Allred Unit consultant says the four days on and four days off schedule is not bad. He spent the first day off recovering from work and the last day off, dreading returning to work. I remember when the Wichita County Jail was on a five-on, two-off schedule. However, due to staffing issues, you had to work overtime on your first day off and were on call the second day off. In other words, you had no days off. My coffee is ready.
06-12-2025 - 2:13 PM - I contacted a station in Little Prairie State Conservation Area (US-11128) in Missouri on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program. POTA hunter count: 536.
06-12-2025 - It was "oil change" time today. The technician advised me that the store got a price break on their Quaker State synthetic oil supply that would save me $10 over the Mobil One stuff I usually use. I made the switch and gave him the $10 I saved.
06-12-2025 - 8:00 AM - On CB Radio Channel 19, truckers express unusual concern over motorcycle cops along the freeway. I advised them not to worry as those were just plywood cutouts. I'm not sure they believed me.

06-12-2025 - Texoma's Home Page (KFDX) reports on a man arrested for theft and resisting arrest. He is accused of what one might describe as a one-man crime spree. The story says the man attempted to steal a cell phone at one location, stole a cell phone at another location, stole money from a customer at another location, and tried to steal money from the cash register at another location. I guess he didn't learn in the "School for Thieves" that it's better to hit one location for a sizable amount rather than string it across the city for nickels and dimes at each location, saying, "Catch me if you can." Remember, all suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Of course, if you plead guilty, you will be found guilty.

06-12-2025 - 6:00 AM - NWS Forecast - Today: A 20 percent chance of showers before 7am. Cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 86. Calm wind becoming east around 6 mph in the afternoon. Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 70. East southeast wind around 7 mph.
06-12-2025 - 5:45 AM - Good morning! It's Thursday and probably a lawn-mowing day for me. Maybe. I want to keep work to a minimum today and every day. There is very little traffic on CB Radio Channel 19 this morning. Walmart is chatting away on 154.570 MHz, and the Allred Unit is doing its thing on 153.815 MHz. Tune in with your scanner radio. My coffee is ready!
06-11-2025 - On Monday, I saw a vulture sitting on the bridge railing on Loop 11 - the loop that doesn't loop - over the Little Wichita River. Today, I saw a vulture, probably the same one, sitting on the railing of the still-not-looping Loop 11 over Old Iowa Park Road. I saw one downtown, picking at roadkill, last week.
06-11-2025 - There was an episode of Law and Order on TV where a cop was forced to admit, on the witness stand, that he had used the term "homocide" when referring to homicides involving gay men. Many years ago, on the death certificate of a prominent Wichita Falls citizen, the cause of death was shown as a homocide. It was a small but amusing typo. Maybe not amusing to the family. (Grammarly wasn't having the "homocide" thing, but I prevailed!)
06-11-2025 – How about a tea party? No, not the political kind. If you want to liven up a party, or the office, just set fire to a tea bag (regular black tea) and sit back and watch. It smells enough like marijuana to fool most people.
