06-29-2025 - Almost 25 years ago, "The Shopper" announced that it was going out of business. I still have that issue.

06-29-2025 - 7:15 AM - The CB Radio band is already awake, and the DXers (skip shooters) are doing their thing. Channels 6, 11, 26, and 38 are busy, and I'm sure other channels will become populated as the hours pass.

06-29-2025 - 7:00 AM - Good Morning! Once again, I have become an Amazon affiliate. As I mentioned on the "About" page, all outbound links on this site are affiliate links. If you purchase through one of those links, I will earn a small commission. If you're a regular Amazon shopper, consider using my link occasionally. It won't cost you any more. The Texas Rangers won last night. Let's see if they can repeat that feat this afternoon. My coffee is ready.

06-28-2025 - 6:30 PM - Area Amateur (ham) Radio Operators are hamming it up at Kiwanis Park for the annual "Field Day" event, and local CB Radio Operators are "rag chewing" on Channel 23.

06-28-2025 - The best Amateur (ham) Radio repeater directory is a local "ham" monitoring 146.520 FM simplex. I have yet to see a repeater directory tell you on which machine you're most likely to get a response.

06-28-2025 - A few weeks ago, I drove through Bellevue on the way to Dallas. The speed limit through that town is 55 MPH. As I sat on that number, I realized how slow it was and how I made several trips in the 1970s from Texas to San Francisco and Texas to the northwest corner of Illinois at that speed. If I had to make those trips at 55 MPH today, I'd die! On a positive note, everybody and their dog had a CB Radio back then.

06-28-2025 - 6:15 AM - If you're in line at Starbucks at Kemp & Kell in Wichita Falls, leave now and drive across the street to Frank & Joe's Coffee in Parker Square. You can go to Starbucks tomorrow! #WichitaFalls

06-28-2025 - 6:00 AM - ERCOT (Texas) snapshot of grid conditions - ERCOT reports that conditions are normal and there is enough power for current demand with an operating reserve of 9,499 Megawatts.

06-28-2025 - 6:00 AM - NWS Forecast - Today: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7am, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 95. Heat index values as high as 101. South wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Tonight: A 10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7pm. Mostly clear, with a low around 77. South southeast wind around 10 mph.

06-28-2025 - 6:00 AM - Good Morning! Amateur (ham) Radio Field Day starts at 1:00 PM today and runs for 24 hours. I'll probably skip any attempts to make Parks on the Air (POTA) contacts today, as the bands will likely be congested with Field Day participants. The POTA operators may stay under the porch today. I do not know. I could just sit back and make contact with Field Day stations around the globe, giving them another point on their scorecard. If you're in the Wichita Falls area, stop by Kiwanis Park and watch the ham radio operators working under simulated emergency conditions. My coffee is ready.
