07-03-2025 - 5:00 AM - Good Morning! It's Thursday. The Texas Rangers have won two in a row, and I don't know what to think about that. It sounds like an oversized load is coming through town with pilot cars working on CB Radio Channel 3. I found it because I had the President McKinley CB radio in the scan mode. I didn't think you could legally move an oversized load during hours of darkness. There's also something happening on Channel 8. I'll listen for a while. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.

07-03-2025 - 5:15 AM - According to Water Data for Texas, Wichita Falls reservoirs are: Arrowhead: 98.3% Kemp: 100% Kickapoo: 100%. Monitored Water Supply Reservoirs are 99.3% full. The City of Wichita Falls uses combined levels of Arrowhead and Kickapoo (99.15%) to determine drought stage.

Mostly cloudy, with a low around 73. South southeast wind 7 to 11 mph. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

07-03-2025 - 6:10 AM - I hear an astronaut aboard the International Space Station, on 145.800 MHz, talking to an Earthbound Amateur (ham) Radio operator. I think it's Astro Shubhanshu Shukla. This is an Amateur (ham) Radio VHF simplex frequency so I can't hear the ground station. Plug this frequency and 437.800 MHz (repeater downlink) into your scanner, and you'll hear Amateur (Ham) Radio contacts from time to time.

07-03-2025 - Below is part of a long document from the FCC that puts "on hold" relief from the high cost of prison phone calls. This is seen as a win for those providing phone services and a loss for prisoners and their families. If you're interested, find the July 1, 2025 issue of the Daily Digest at the FCC website.

From the U.S. Federal Communications Commission - In the Matter of Incarcerated People’s Communications Services; Implementation of the Martha Wright-Reed Act Rates for Interstate Inmate Calling Services |||| By this Order, the Wireline Competition Bureau (Bureau) extends the deadlines by which IPCS providers must comply with certain rules adopted in the 2024 IPCS Order until April 1, 2027 or any alternative date the Commission sets as part of further action in the incarcerated people’s communications servic s (IPCS) proceeding.1 Specifically, we temporarily waive the deadlines for complying with the rate cap, site commission, and per-minute pricing rules adopted in the 2024 IPCS Order to ensure sufficient funding for safety and security tools, while IPCS providers and the facilities they serve address the challenges of implementing these requirements.2 As discussed below, these ongoing implementation challenges and the resulting risks to safety and security greatly exceed what the Commission considered or anticipated when it adopted the 2024 IPCS Order. Our action here is intended to preserve correctional officials’ ability to provide safe and secure access to IPCS while the Commission assesses whether to take further action it deems necessary as it continues to reevaluate its IPCS rules in light of these unanticipated and ongoing challenges—including reconsidering critical aspects of the 2024 IPCS Order.

07-03-2025 - The City of Wichita Falls will host a fireworks display at the Multi-Purpose Events Center Friday evening, while 10th St. between Scott & Indiana Avenue continues to dismantle vehicles. That' s an exaggeration, but maybe the City could divert some fireworks $$$ to street repair?

07-03-2025 - I hear an oversized load coming through town, and these people are working on 151.940 MHz. This is a frequency in the license-free Multi-Use Radio Service. This is a good idea as they don't have to listen to all the skip-shootes and other static on the CB Radio. This MURS frequency is providing crystal clear communications! I think the trucking industry should abandon CB Radio Channel 19 and pick one of the 5 MURS frequencies.

07-03-2025 - Today I saw a car on the road with no headlights. The headlights were missing. The openings where the headlights are usually installed were empty. Texas just eliminated the vehicle inspection requirement for most non-commercial vehicles so I don't expect repairs to be made anytime soon.

07-03-2025 - I haven't even attempted to make any CW (Morse code) contacts the last few days. To atone, I'm forcing myself to listen to a code practice session broadcast by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) on 14.047.5 MHz.

07-03-2025 - At 7:00 PM, the Clay County Amateur Radio Club in Henrietta, Texas, began its monthly "meeting" net. This net is different from their weekly emergency practice net. I'm unsure if this is a permanent or temporary situation.
