05-11-2024 - Listen for these Amateur (ham) Radio Special Event call signs across the HF (high frequency) bands this weekend - W3T, WW0T, F1SXC, K0C, W2H, W7G, NEPM*, NI6IW, K4RC, N0F, W4LX, W5BCS, K3FBI, N4P. * I've never heard of an Amateur Radio call sign without a number. It's listed at ARRL as NEPM and at the event web site. Maybe I'm just behind the times when it comes to Amateur (ham) Radio Special Event call signs.

05-11-2024 - Good Morning! There are several pics on Twitter of the Northern Lights seen from Wichita Falls. I saw them in 1989. As far as I know, there have been no sightings between then and now. I could be wrong. But I know this: my Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.

05-10-2024 - Good Morning! There's nothing of importance on the schedule today. The lawn doesn't need mowing. As far as I know, there's nothing busted around the house to fix. So, I'll play with my radios until something better distracts me. Since January 1, 2024, I've contacted 152 parks in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program. I think there are around 7,000 state and federal parks in the U.S., so I've got my work cut out for me. No, I'm not going to try to work them all. It's an activity, not an addiction. Speaking of addictions, my Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.
05-09-2024 - My wife and I drove to Mister Guns in Plano to fire the M 60 machine gun. I was first up. The M 60, however, developed chambering issues after the 3rd or 4th round. We ditched the M60 and went to the M240. Again, The M240 has a higher rate of fire than the M60 and the first burst surprised me. I last fired the M60 in Infantry AIT (Advanced Individual Training) at Fort Polk (now Johnson) in 1971. That last event was shooting "John Wayne" style - from the hip - fed with a belt of ammo from a box strapped to my other hip - killing pop-up targets as we walked. Today, the gun - with bipod - was fired from a table.
05-09-2024 - I made contact with W8NI at Independence Dam State Park (US-1960) in Ohio on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.

05-09-2024 - NWS Forecast - Today: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly between 1pm and 4pm. Mostly sunny, with a high near 78. 05-09-2024 - Good Morning! I worked 7 parks in the Parks on the Air® program yesterday. That will make up for today because I'll be busy with other interesting activities until at least 4 PM. Though it's far from Winter here in the shack, I've got the fireplace video going on the big screen TV. Also, my coffee is ready.
