06-03-2024 - From the U.S. Federal Communications Commission - Complaint No. 6975805 - ORDER - Adopted: May 30, 2024 Released: May 31, 2024 - By the Deputy Chief, Consumer Policy Division, Consumer and Governmental Affairs Bureau: 1. 06-03-2024 - They say the license-free (Multi-Use Radio Service) is one of the best-kept secrets in Hobby Radio communications. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) calls it "...a private, two-way, short-distance voice or data communications service for personal or business activities of the general public." MURS has five channels, and in Wichita Falls, the biggest users are Walmart and the Wichita Falls Independent School District. These entities use handheld radios with short, stubby antennas, and their range is limited. This means many others across town can use the service without much fear of interference. There are a few other private users, but there's room for more.
06-03-2024 - Here are some of our regular scanner radio targets (frequencies in MHz): Amateur (ham) Radio 146.520, 147.140, 146.940, and 146.800, Walmart/Sam's 154.570 & 154.600, Allred Unit 153.815, the County Jail 155.520, State Hospital 154.800, city transit buses 453.5375, school buses 152.360, school handheld radios 151.940, Air Evac Lifeteam 159.900, BNSF Railroad 160.920, Kickapoo Airport 122.700, Wichita Valley Airport 122.800, and the Fort Worth Air Route Traffic Control Center (Wichita Falls remote) 132.925 & 269.250. Tune in with your scanner radio.

06-03-2024 - Good Morning! I've got Morse code on the 40-meter Amateur (ham) Radio band running in the background while I listen to my nearby Walmart store on my scanner at 154.570 MHz, the (Multi-Use Radio Service) frequency used on the handheld radios at all three Wichita Falls Walmart stores. Of course, I'm washing it all down with Folger's Black Silk coffee. When the 20-meter band opens, I'll see if I can snag a few Parks on the Air® stations on Morse code. I can do it on 40 meters but, for now, I want to do them all on 20 meters.

I'm thanking you in advance because AMAZON, correctly, doesn't identify you to me.
06-02-2024 - I busted the FCC Second Class Radio Telephone Operator test back in 1977. They gave me a Third Class Radio Telephone Operator License as a consolation prize.
06-02-2024 - At 2:00 PM, our local Amateur (ham) Radio Skywarn® storm spotters are being activated. I'm not sure why. The radar shows the current storm is about to complete its trip over the city and enter the domain of the Clay County spotters. There's another storm coming out of the Guthrie area, but on its present track, it looks like it will pass south of Wichita Falls. Maybe not. It's possible that the Net Control Station knows something I don't know. I haven't had a storm spotter class since 1984, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night!.
06-02-2024 - I made contact with K6PB at Hearst San Simeon State Park (US-1158) in California on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.
06-02-2024 - Did you know that BNSF railroad issues clearances to train drivers similar to those issued by FAA Air Traffic Control for pilots? In Wichita Falls, listen in at 160.920 MHz on your scanner radio.
06-02-2024 - 9:55 AM - Wichita Falls area Skywarn Storm spotters just broadcast a weather update on the 146.940 MHz repeater. This is the same frequency used by the spotters when activated. Tune in with your scanner radio.
