06-05-2024 - Good Morning! When I went to bed last night at 11:00 PM, a thunderstorm was heading our way from Lawton. Nothing woke me up, and the streets looked dry this morning, so I guess it didn't reach us. I was listening to two local "hams" on the 147.140 MHz repeater this morning when an operator in Dalhart, Texas, joined the conversation. He said he was running only 5 watts. There must be a "band opening" this morning. I think it's time for another cup of Folgers Black Silk coffee!
06-04-2024 - At 8:30 PM, I hear a Parks on the Air® station in elusive Alaska. He's very weak. I threw out my call a few times. I think he heard me once and responded with a ???. I repeated my call sign, but he faded away. He's been "in and out" for a half-hour. I'm pulling the plug for now. I need Alaska, Hawaii, and Vermont to have all states worked on CW (Morse code) for the Parks on the Air® program. I've worked all states, just not for Parks on the Air®, and not all on CW. Maybe next time!
06-04-2024 - I made contact with KC8RVD at Tummonds State Nature Preserve (US-9440) in Ohio on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.
06-04-2024 - I made contact with KG8CO at Schoonover Waterfowl National Wildlife Management Area (US-6780) in Michigan on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.
06-04-2024 - I made contact with KF0AX at Ledges State Park (US-2303) in Iowa on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.
06-04-2024 - At 1:15 PM I'm hearing traffic on the Multi-Use Radio Service frequency of 151.940. I usually hear WFISD on this frequency, but this doesn't sound like WFISD. Maybe they'll reveal some clues before long.

06-04-2024 - Good Morning! It's Tuesday, and that means the Clay County Amateur Radio Club will be holding their Skywarn® practice net tonight at 8:00 PM on the 146.800 MHz repeater. Tune in with your scanner radio, or check in if you are an Amateur (ham) Radio operator. In an earlier post, I talked about the license-free Multi-Use Radio Service being the best-kept secret in Hobby Radio. The General Mobile Radio Service seems to be almost as unknown here in Wichita Falls. GMRS has more channels and a higher power allowance but it requires a license (no test required) to operate. Both services have room for a lot more local users!
06-03-2024 - 9:21 PM - ERCOT (Texas) snapshot of grid conditions - ERCOT reports that conditions are normal and there is enough power for current demand with an operating reserve of 6,102 Megawatts.
06-03-2024 - At 3:40 PM, Wichita Falls area Skywarn® storm spotters issued a weather update on the 146.940 MHz repeater. The condensed RA7DIO3.com version is that spotters might have to be activated due to severe weather around sun-up tomorrow. The risk of tornadoes will be low, but hail might be big! Tune in to updates and live spotter activations on your scanner radio.
06-03-2024 - The Clay County Amateur Radio Club conducts a weekly Skywarn® practice net on Tuesdays at 8:00 PM on the 146.800 MHz repeater. Tune in with your scanner radio!
