06-06-2024 - At 10:25 PM, our local Air Evac Lifeteam is on the air at 159.900 MHz. Tune in with your scanner radio.

06-06-2024 - According to local news reports, JC Penney at Sikes Senter Mall will close. If we're not careful, Wichita Falls will dry up and blow away! But, in another news item, a "$1 billion data center complex, named Pioneer Park" may move into the former call center on Airport Drive at I-44. Maybe the JC Penney employees can get work there. Here's an idea for the JC Penney location: divide it into several smaller sections and rent to locally-owned restaurants. Individual sit-down restaurants, not a "food court" setup. And no chains!

06-06-2024 - Flashback - The early 1980s - U.S. Air Force Security Police at the Sheppard Air Force Base Main Gate were greeted with a barrage of bottle rockets fired from the now-demolished apartments on Burkburnett Road, just outside the gate. That location is now a city bus stop. The Security Police guys were probably more amused than anything. Wichita Falls police were not able to locate the rocketeers. Back then, you could monitor SAFB Security Police on your Radio Shack scanner radio. Those days are long gone.

06-06-2024 - There was a fair amount of traffic at Kickapoo Downtown Airport today. I'm not sure how it got "Downtown" as part of the name since it's clearly in the southern part of town. But we have highway loops that don't loop and a skyscraper that doesn't scrape the sky. I guess no one is keeping score. Listen to Kickapoo at 122.700 MHz and Wichita Valley Airport at 122.800 MHz on your scanner radio.

06-06-2024 - Starbucks is opening a new location at Central Freeway and Windthorst Road, in front of the Sonic. I guess they're okay with the Maurine Street failure over a dozen years ago. Or, maybe they think truck drivers will keep them afloat. It's possible. In other news, the Broad Street IHOP is closed until further notice. No reason was given, according to news reports.

06-06-2024 - The James V. Allred Unit, our local male, maximum security prison, runs many training exercises simulating actual situations. You can listen in at 153.815 MHz on your scanner radio.

There will be no school bus traffic on 152.360 MHz to cheer us up. We'll have to wait until after the Summer break for that. But it's worth waiting for!
