06-15-2024 - I never realized how versatile CB radios are until I got on Twitter. I see tweets about people claiming someone they know listened to police calls, cordless phones, old car phones, and who knows what else on their CB Radio. Also, just about any radio they see with a microphone is a CB Radio. It's not a big deal, just interesting.

06-15-2024 - Good Morning! Wichita Falls has never really kind to restaurants, chain or locally-owned. It looks like Red Lobster might be the next to leave Wichita Falls. Denny's on Kemp is no more. I'm still wondering why Golden Corral shut down. It always looked busy. Now I'm worried about Olive Garden. Will the $120 I dropped in there a week ago keep them afloat? My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready!

06-14-2024 - If you're familiar with CB Radio, you know that most radios made these days have a "talkback" feature. Talkback allows you to hear what you sound like while you're transmitting. Listening to some Ham Radio signals, I'm beginning to think this might be a useful feature on Amateur (ham) Radio rigs.
06-14-2024 - I would love it if there were an Amateur (ham) Radio band, or even a small section of each band, designated for people who don't need or want a QSL card or any other type 3rd party logging of contacts. For example, as I write this, I need three more parks to have worked a Parks on the Air Park in all 50 states. When I get those three, I will know I have accomplished that goal. I don't need anyone's blessing over my logs or anyone's logs to say that it officially happened. That goes for any of the so-called Ham Radio contact milestones. Just think, I write the contact in my log, or maybe I don't record it. No more uploading to Logbook of the World, eQSL, or whatever. There's no need to because the people I contact don't require it. The only reason I upload contact info now is out of consideration for the other operator. I haven't kept a paper log in 30 years. I'm living in a "dream world", I know. But dreaming is fun.

06-14-2024 - Good Morning! According to news reports, the Hobo Coffee Shop at Loop 11 (the loop that doesn't loop) and Seymour Highway will close this weekend. Another coffee shop of some sort will take over the building. Do you remember Best Products on Kell? All the products in the showroom were for display only. If you wanted something, you filled out the product info on a card, paid for the item, and then waited for it to come out of the storeroom on a conveyor belt. If it was too big for the conveyor belt, someone would bring it out to you. I remember buying one of those "kneeling" chairs. I haven't seen one of those e-bikes downtown in quite some time. They used to be parked on 7th Street, just east of Scott. Are they still there? There's no way I'd ride a bike in the street in crazy downtown Wichita Falls. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready!
06-13-2024 - Yesterday, while having my car serviced at North Texas Auto Service, I noticed a Kenwood 2-meter radio - minus the microphone - sitting atop a filing cabinet. I inquired as to who the "ham" might be. I was told it belonged to a customer whose vehicle was in for service. The vehicle - in the parking lot - belonged to a "tower" installation company from another state. The driver was not present for further interrogation.
