06-26-2024 - Good Morning! Here's a list of "things to do" in Wichita Falls. As mentioned on the list, it's a little out-of-date, but it might still be of use to those claiming boredom. If you've checked the weather forecast, you know it will be a little toasty today with a high of 105 degrees. Too hot for me! I'll have some Folgers Black Silk coffee now while it's still a chilly 81 degrees outside.

06-24-2024 - From my Allred Unit consultant - I don't know which is worse, working a gate when it's 10 degrees outside and the doghouse has a heater you couldn't burn your finger on if you tried, or the same gate when it's 100 degrees outside and you couldn't buy a breeze for a million bucks.

06-24-2024 - As a kid I did two tours at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. One of my best memories is dumpster diving behind the barracks of airmen going through Basic Training. These guys accumulated more stuff than they could pack for the trip home or to their next duty station. They also dumped things they probably didn't want to take home, such as Playboy magazines. But they dumped all sorts of magazines, comic books, cologne, unused toiletries, and other stuff that was like gold to a kid. The only dumpster diving I did as an adult was in the housing area of the Presidio of San Francisco when I was stationed there. A man and woman were having a big fight and decided to see how much of the other's stuff they could throw in the dumpster. A neighbor and I helped them out by retrieving stuff - very good stuff - between their trips. They were probably shocked when they returned in the morning, suffering from dumpster remorse.
06-24-2024 - A popular feature of some Amateur (ham) Radio equipment is the "crossband repeat" function. This capability will allow you to sit in your "easy chair" with a small handheld VHF-UHF transceiver, transmit to your more powerful VHF-UHFbase station connected to an outside antenna, and have the base station transmit your signal to a repeater that might be out-of-range for your handheld radio. You can also connect to your HF (High Frequency) base station using your handheld VHF-UHF radio and talk around the world!
06-24-2024 - It looks like Hooters is the latest victim of whatever it is that victimizes business in Wichita Falls. I've never been to Hooters, so I'm not affected by this closing. I have been to Bone Daddy's in Grapevine. I think that's about the same, but it's closed also! I hope the Wichita Falls employees find suitable employment elsewhere. Restaurants come, and restaurants go. That's the normal condition for Wichita Falls. Now, it's time for a good catfish restaurant on the north side of town! UPDATE: Bradford's Fish Haus opened a few days ago at 1616 Pearlie Drive!
