07-09-2024 - I was excited to learn that a small handful of Parks on the Air® stations have activated Alcatraz Island. Many years ago, I was stationed at the Presidio of San Francisco, where Alcatraz was always in view. I've worked (hunted) a Presidio POTA station but have yet to hear an Alcatraz station. Maybe one of these days.

07-09-2024 - Vermont, Hawaii, and Alaska are still playing "hard to get" as far as the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program is concerned. I'll snag them one day. With those, I will have worked a state or federal park in all 50 states on 20-meter CW (Morse code). I've only been doing this POTA thing since January, and I've worked 234 parks as of this morning.

07-08-2024 - My jury duty didn't last long this morning. The defendant and the State agreed to a plea deal before trial, and the jury was cut loose. The judge used the word "discharged". I don't think I'm even on call during the two-week term. This afternoon, I stopped by Home Depot for a few parts I need to erect a dipole antenna at one or more local city parks.

07-07-2024 - I've worked 230 Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® stations since Jan 1, 2024. I should have 232, but two stations probably aren't going to confirm the contact for one reason or another. Vermont, Alaska, and Hawaii remain elusive - at least the parks - but I'll catch them one day. I killed my Twitter (X) account for the 349th time. It's just too depressing. I still have it, but it's locked down. I do want to keep the @ name. I'll use it for research. I won't post to it or interact with others on it. UPDATE: I'm back on X (Twitter)!

07-07-2024 - According to the AMSAT News Service, five Amateur (ham) Radio satellites were launched on July 4, 2024. While I have listened to a few Amateur Radio satellites, I've never made a two-way contact through one. I prefer direct "my antenna to your antenna" contacts. There are about two dozen of these satellites currently in orbit.

South wind 7 to 14 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Tonight: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 10pm, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 10pm and 1am, then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm after 1am.
