07-22-2024 - On X, formerly known as Twitter, there is some chatter about a scene in the new movie Twisters where a CB Radio, with no antenna connected, is being used. How did no one notice or question this? Maybe people think that because their cell phone magically talks across the USA with no obvious antenna, every communications gadget should work that way. It reminds me of that scene in Better Call Saul (or was it Breaking Bad?) where Mike uses a Galaxy CB Radio, with no antenna, set to Channel 3 to call police dispatch. Mike is an "older" gentleman. He should have known better and alerted the director. Maybe he did and was told "Either you fry those "finals", or I'll find someone who will!" :)

07-22-2024 - Good Morning! There are no local Amateur (ham) Radio nets tonight. The Wichita Amateur Radio Society held its weekly net (147.140 MHz) last night, and the Clay County Amateur Radio Club will hold its weekly net (146.800 MHz) tomorrow night. Three weeks to go until Wichita Falls school buses hit the streets with their always-interesting radio traffic on 152.360 MHz. I know I'll be listening! And don't forget the CB Radio guys on Channel 23 daily at 5:30 PM. My Coffee is ready!

07-21-2024 - I'm listening to a CW (Morse code) net on 14.53 MHz (20 meters) to become familiar with CW net procedures. It's a little different from an SSB (voice) net. Who knows when this knowledge might be needed?

07-21-2024 - I made contact with NN0G at Chatfield State Park (US-1212) in Colorado on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.

07-21-2024 - Years ago, United Supermarkets gave away a turkey if you spent $100 or more during a visit. We got several of those turkeys. Having no room for the latest issue, we drove to the Faith Mission loading dock to drop it off. Two men came to the car to accept it. One took the turkey while the other stood back about 10 feet. The one standing back said, "Another turkey. I was hoping for a ham!" I thought it was funny - sort of. I still donate to the mission.

07-21-2024 - Good Morning! There's a chance of rain in the forecast. It's about time to recharge our lakes. Watering our lawns would be cool, too. I'm thinking about another trip to the top of Mount Murphy at Lake Wichita Park for more 2-meter FM simplex contacts. Give it a try sometime! We're about three weeks away from the start of school for the WFISD. Why is this important? School bus radio traffic on 152.360 MHz! It's cheap entertainment. Get a scanner radio and be ready! I'm ready for some Folgers Black Silk coffee!

07-20-2024 - At 5:30 PM, a Parks on the Air® station in Alaska is on the air. I need (want) that one. I see the active listing on the POTA spotter page but I can't hear a single dot or dash. I can't even hear other stations working the AK station. One of these days.
