07-31-2024 - CB Radio, for the next several years, is the domain of the DXer or skip shooter. The current solar 11-year cycle has made long-distance communications easy. The constant cacophony of signals flying here, there, and everywhere makes local communications challenging, at least during the daytime. The DX usually quiets down at night. The Multi-Use Radio Service (MURS) and the General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) are probably better choices for local communications. These services offer quiet communications with just a few watts of power. GMRS even allows repeater operation for those who feel the need.

07-31-2024 - Did I tell you about going "motorcycle mobile" with a CB Radio in 1970? The installation was not pretty or permanent. It was just something I had to try. Now you know. But that doesn't make us "good buddies". Who started that "good buddy" crap, anyway? I've never heard it on the radio.

07-31-2024 - The James V. Allred Unit is very active this morning on 153.815 MHz. A waste management company is out managing waste on 463.300 MHz. Air Traffic Control is controlling air traffic on 269.250 MHz. Tune in to that and a lot more with your scanner radio!

07-31-2024 - Good Morning! The new Legacy and Memorial High Schools will come alive with student orientations between August 6th and 12th. School starts on August 15th. That means school buses (152.360 MHz) and staff handheld radios (151.940 MHz) will come alive for your edification and enjoyment. As you've probably guessed, I'm about to enjoy some Folgers Black Silk coffee!

07-30-2024 - According to a story at Texoma's Home Page (KFDX), the Wichita County District Attorney's Office is experiencing a shortage of prosecutors, and the problem could worsen. The story says a hiring firm said the problem is not the pay but the fact that it's Wichita Falls. I guess no one wants to do any lawyering here. Let's see what develops.

07-30-2024 - Good Morning. July is almost at an end and we have some hot days ahead. But, if we can make it through August we'll have it made. That is, we who hate high temperatures will have it made. I don't like temperature extremes, but I'm a Winter person. I have no use for temps above 80 degrees. An exception would be the temperature of my Folgers Black Silk coffee! I'll grab a cup while I listen to a conversation in Morse code on the 40-meter Amateur (ham) Radio band. Later, it's more home maintenance chores.

07-29-2024 - There was not much posting today. I'll blame it on yard work and other home maintenance tasks. According to local news reports, we now have 4 cases of West Nile Virus in Wichita County. I hope they're all minor.

07-29-2024 - At 9:26 PM, I'm hearing chatter on 437.800 MHz, the downlink frequency of the crossband repeater aboard the International Space Station. Tune in with your scanner radio.
