08-28-2024 - Good Morning! I tuned in to the Clay County Amateur Radio Club's weekly net last night on their 148.800 MHz repeater. Make sure you have that frequency plugged into your scanner. It's also used for their storm spotter operations. Our lake levels crept upward slightly overnight. Yesterday's Dallas - Fort Worth storms were moving in our direction. Maybe they dropped some water over our lakes. Our chance of rain on Friday has jumped to 70%. Let's keep our fingers crossed! Right now, I'll pour a cup of Folgers Black Silk coffee!
08-27-2024 - Did I see rain in the forecast for Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, or was I dreaming? It's a start but we need to load up those lakes for Winter.
08-27-2024 - I saw an article about more schools banning cell phones in class. That's going to cause some withdrawal issues for some. Here's an idea: allow handheld Amateur (ham) Radio transceivers in class. If you're going to communicate, you might as well make it meaningful. On a more serious note, having been a substitute teacher, I think we need more kids showing up at school ready to learn.
08-27-2024 - The Clay County Amateur Radio Club holds a weekly informal net on Tuesdays at 8:00 PM on the 146.800 MHz repeater. As far as I know, all licensed Amateur (ham) Radio operators are invited to check in. Of course, scanner radio enthusiasts can also tune in.
08-27-2024 - I turned on the President McKinley CB Radio this afternoon to find the 11-meter band pretty flat. When Channel 6 - the superbowl of CB Radio - is muzzled, you know something is wrong. This is going to sound like blasphemy to a lot of CB Radio people, but I wish I could flip a switch from the peak of the solar cycle to the bottom of the solar cycle. I want quiet conditions for local CB Radio communications and the band wide open for Ham Radio DX communications.
08-27-2024 - The former bank drive-thru on Scott between 5th & 6th Streets is being converted into something. Could it be apartments like the drive-thru at 9th & Lamar? I see walls being put up inside the east end of the building.
08-27-2024 - I made contact with K2JVB at Elizabeth A. Morton National Wildlife Refuge (US-0474) in New York on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.

08-27-2024 - I made contact with NV4H at Bryce Canyon National Park (US-0009) in Utah on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.
08-27-2024 - NWS Forecast - Today: Sunny and hot, with a high near 98. Heat index values as high as 101. Calm wind becoming southeast 5 to 9 mph in the morning. Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 75. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph.
08-27-2024 - 8:11 AM - According to Water Data for Texas, Wichita Falls reservoirs are: Arrowhead: 67.7 Kemp: 100.0% Kickapoo 71.9%. The City of Wichita Falls uses the combined levels of Arrowhead and Kickapoo to determine drought stage.
08-27-2024 - 8:11 AM - NOAA SPACE WEATHER - Last 24 Hours - Radio Blackouts (Minor) Solar Radiation Storms (None) Geomagnetic Storms (None) Current - Solar Wind Speed: 309 km/sec Solar Wind Magnetic Fields: Bt 10 nT, Bz 2 nT Noon 10.7cm Radio Flux: 232 sfu.
08-27-2024 - 8:11 AM - ERCOT (Texas) snapshot of grid conditions - ERCOT reports that conditions are normal and there is enough power for current demand with an operating reserve of 7,697 Megawatts.
08-27-2024 - As I mentioned earlier, I want to find an Amateur (ham) Radio Operator to climb Mount Trashmore in Iowa Park. I'll climb Mount Murphy in Lake Wichita Park in Wichita Falls, and we'll see if we can make contact on 146.520 MHz FM simplex. The contact part should be easy. Climbing to the top of Mount Murphy could be rough on me. The last time I did it, I had to stop twice for a nap on the way up. I'm getting old! As for Mount Trashmore, that ascent might get someone arrested unless they work there. Then, they might only get committed.
08-27-2024 - Our local schools began their second full week yesterday. You can monitor our school buses on 152.360 MHz on your scanner radio. The school bus radio content alone is worth the cost of a scanner and I'm listening right now!
08-27-2024 - Good Morning! As I write this, I have worked 312 stations on 20-meter CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program. I've worked the lower 48 states, but Alaska and Hawaii have been elusive. They pop up on the POTA spotter page, but their signals are too weak. My 10-40 meter Zero Five ground plane antenna isn't much help on those very weak stations. I accept this. No yagi antennas or amplifiers. That would take the fun out of it for me. I don't want a system that works every time. I need a challenge. I'll put the headphones on and listen to some relaxing CW on the 40-meter band while I enjoy my Folgers Black Silk coffee!
08-26-2024 - There are no posts for the 25th & 26th of August while I reconfigure the site and change the domain name!
