09-03-2024 - We got more rain overnight, at least at the Hobby Ra7dio3 HQ. A Ham Radio operator a mile from me reported getting no rain. Translation: scattered showers. I was looking at the satellite view of some of our City parks, and I see a couple that seem to be surrounded by people just dying for you to set up an Amateur (ham) Radio operation so they can report the strange activity to the police. A couple more look like you could die in them, and no one would notice for a week. Most, however, look like good spots for Hobby Radio operations. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready, but I think I'm going to reduce my intake over the next few days. I could be drinking too much!
09-02-2024 - On the way home from Lampasas - mentioned below - I took a short detour off U.S. 281 into Mineral Wells. I passed a building with "Antenna Products" in big letters on the side. Back home, I found their website with the following categories: Aviation, Commercial, DPV Series, HF, Military, Navaid, Safety Climb, Shipboard, and Towers. Interesting. For years. I didn't know that Newtronics Hustler antennas were made in Mineral Wells, just a block off the main street (U.S. 281) through town. According to their website, the new address is New-Tronics Ltd, 113 Cambridge Park Trail, Weatherford, Texas, 76088. I don't know when that move was made or if they're still in Weatherford.
09-02-2024 - I drove to Lampasas, Texas, to deliver an item, then turned around and returned to Wichita Falls. Since I was on U.S. 281, I passed by the Dutchman's Hidden Valley Store just north of Hamilton. On the return trip, the parking lot was full. My first visit was in 1974. It's still going strong. Maybe I'll stop next time. Give it a look if you're ever in the area. By the way, there was plenty of rain on the trip south. I wonder if Wichita Falls got any while I was away?

09-02-2024 - Good Morning! It's Labor Day, but I have no intention of performing any labor. We got some rain yesterday afternoon, just enough to water the lawn. I don't know if our lakes & watershed got any. It was also time to change the air filter in the central AC unit. I have nothing important on the schedule today. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready! That's about as important as it gets!
09-01-2024 - Wichita Falls scanner radio enthusiasts, do you remember when you could monitor the Wichita Falls Police Department, most other City departments, Sheppard Air Force Base Security Police, and just about everything else at SAFB on your scanner? Those were the golden days of radio scanning, but there are still plenty of interesting targets out there. And, yes, the Target store is one of them!

09-01-2024 - One night, around 30 years ago, I was standing outside talking to a couple of guys when we saw a huge fireball moving east across the sky. It was not moving very fast, from our perspective, which means it was probably at a high altitude. I could see flaming debris separating from whatever it was. One of the guys thought it might be a large airplane on fire. When it was out of sight, I drove east, out of town, looking for the crash site. I never saw any evidence that something had crashed. The next day, news reports said it was a Russian rocket booster re-entering the atmosphere 2,000 miles off the U.S. east coast.

09-01-2024 - Good Morning! It's the 1st of September, and that means snow is just around the corner. I can wish, can't I? Let it be known that someone "kerchunked" the 147.140 MHz repeater at 5:00 AM. I have nothing of importance on the schedule today. I might snag a Parks on the Air® station or two, and I might wash the car. My lawn refuses to grow in all the heat we've had, even though I've been watering the recommended amount. Therefore, no lawn mowing. But there will be coffee, and it's ready now!
