09-24-2024 - Good Morning! It's Tesday, and the Clay County Amateur Radio Club will hold its weekly Skywarn® practice net tonight at 8:00 PM on the 146.800 MHz repeater. As far as I know, all licensed Amateur (ham) Radio operators are invited to check in. Of course, scanner radio enthusiasts can also tune in. In other news, I have worked 351 Parks on the Air® since the beginning of the year. The POTA program makes for good CW (Morse code) practice. An email from DX Engineering says that the SOTAbeams Carbon-6 Compact Ultra-Light Telescopic Mast I ordered yesterday has shipped. My coffee is ready!

09-23-2024 - Today, I ordered the SOTAbeams Carbon-6 Compact Ultra-Light Telescopic Mast and an end-fed half-wave antenna to give it something to hold up in the air! The mast has 18 telescoping sections. It is 17 inches collapsed and 19 feet extended. I'll be using these items in my upcoming portable operations. I might post a pic when they arrive.

09-23-2024 - I made contact with AB9CA at Sam Parr State Park (US-1020) in Illinois on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.

09-23-2024 - Just a reminder that there's an active group on CB Radio Channel 23. You can catch them at 5:30 PM just about every day.

09-23-2024 - Some local scanning targets: Walmart (154.570 MHz), Allred Unit (153.815 MHz), Wichita County Jail (155.520 MHz), State Hospital (154.800 MHz) city transit buses (453.5375 MHz), WFISD school buses (152.360 MHz), school handheld radios (151.940 MHz), Wichita Valley Airport (122.800 MHz), Kickapoo Airport (122.700 MHz), Wichita Falls Regional Airports / SAFB (119.750 & 122.950 MHz),and the BNSF Railroad (160.920 MHz) are active!

09-23-2024 - I have yet to use my new QRP Labs QCX Mini 20-meter CW transceiver in a local park, but that might happen soon as our blistering temperatures subside. I'm probably going with an end-fed halfwave antenna, a design I've never used before. I've also been looking at the SOTAbeams Carbon-6 Compact Ultra-Light Telescopic Mast for these outings. We have 37 parks!

I have nothing of importance on the schedule for today. I hear our local City transit buses (453.5375) MHz are up and running. More of our local scanning targets should show up before long. Oh, and the forecasted high for today is 78 degrees! My coffee is ready!

09-22-2024 - At 8:00 PM, the Wichita Amateur Radio Society weekly net kicked off as scheduled. I was watching football, so I didn't pay much attention to it. When I turned the scanner volume back up at 8:20, the net was over. I guess others were also watching football.
