10-20-2024 - Good Morning! It's Sunday, and the Wichita Amateur Radio Society will conduct its weekly informal net on the 147.140 MHz repeater at 8:00 PM. Tune in with your scanner radio. Speaking of scanner radios, what can you legally intercept? What can you legally divulge? Find out here: Interception and Divulgence of Radio Communications. I fired up the Briggs & Stratton generator yesterday for its regular exercise run. It's ready to go if needed. Hopefully, we won't have another Great Texas Freeze. My coffee is ready!

10-19-2024 - I made contact with NG9M at Rock Cut State Park (US-1019) in Illinois on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.

10-19-2024 - I find it interesting that athletes are "out of" this school or that school. I often see something like John Doe, out of Wichita Falls Hirschi, will start today. I also see it in commentary on wrestling and musical bands. I never see this terminology used when speaking of legal or medical professionals. I don't see "Representing the accused is Attorney Matlock Sherlock, out of Texas Tech School of Law." Maybe it's just a social media thing.

10-19-2024 - Some local weekend scanning targets: Walmart (154.570 MHz), Allred Unit (153.815 MHz), Wichita County Jail (155.520 MHz), State Hospital (154.800 MHz) city transit buses (453.5375 MHz), Wichita Valley Airport (122.800 MHz), Kickapoo Airport (122.700 MHz), Wichita Falls Regional Airports / SAFB (119.750 & 122.950 MHz), and the BNSF Railroad (160.920 MHz).

10-19-2024 - Tuning across the CB Radio band at 7:10 AM, I hear traffic on Channel 6 AM, the "superbowl", and Channel 38 LSB, the popular DX, or skip-shooting frequency. When it comes to operating CB Radio, I enjoy the quiet periods at the bottom of the 11-year solar cycle as opposed to the noisy (current) conditions at or near the peak of the solar cycle. I like talking locally and monitoring Channel 19 for trucking communications. You can't have it both ways. These days, it's a skip-shooters paradise and I'm in the listen-only mode.

10-19-2024 - In the News - According to one news report, CrashWorks STEAM Studio and Makerspace will close after six years. The owners want to regroup and rethink things and plan to return. Maybe some Amateur (ham) Radio? In other news, the late Lloyd Ruby, our very own Indianapolis 500 driver, will get a Texas Historical Marker in Harold Jones Park today.

10-19-2024 - NWS Forecast - Today: Sunny, with a high near 81. East southeast wind 10 to 13 mph. Tonight: Clear, with a low around 51. East southeast wind 6 to 10 mph.

10-19-2024 - 5:10 AM - According to Water Data for Texas, Wichita Falls reservoirs are: Arrowhead: 63.5 Kemp: 96.6% Kickapoo 66.1%. Monitored Water Supply Reservoirs are 78.4% full. The City of Wichita Falls uses the combined levels of Arrowhead and Kickapoo to determine drought stage.

1-19-2024 - Good Morning! It's Saturday, and another trip to the Wichita Falls Farmer's Market might be on the schedule. Also, the Montague County (Amateur Radio) simplex net kicks off at 9:00 AM on 147.500 MHz. I made no Parks on the Air® contacts yesterday as I spent a few hours dealing with a web hosting issue.
