09-03-2023 - Our local Amateur (ham) Radio storm spotters have had a somewhat easy season as the storms have been few. We recently had one that did a lot of wind damage, but overall, the year has been quiet. I don't care for thunderstorms, but we need the rain. Do you monitor storm spotters in your area? You'll usually find them on a repeater in the 144 - 148 MHz range. Set your scanner radio to search between those frequencies during bad weather.

09-03-2023 - I hear a station in Puerto Rico on CB Radio Channel 10 talking to another station I can't hear. I can't make out the Puerto Rico station's handle. Other than 6,9,10, and 38, most other channels are quiet at the moment.

09-03-2023 - On CB Radio Channel 38, I hear a station in Jamaica working "141" in Texas. I don't hear the Texas station. Channel 6 is also alive and well. It's going to be a good DX day.

09-03-2023 - I'm up earlier than usual, but Folgers Black Silk will clear away the cobwebs. At this hour, the CB Radio is dead. The band has yet to open, and transient truckers have little to say on a Sunday morning. The scanner radio is alive with our nearby Allred Unit prison and the county jail frequencies busy. There are no school buses to monitor today. They always provide good entertainment. I didn't do much radioing yesterday. After my chores, it was college football and MLB baseball! Let's see what today brings.

09-02-2023 - It's Folgers Black Silk time! Be jealous, all you Starbucks drinkers! On the schedule this morning is a trip to the local Farmers Market to get some salsa. Then it's out to the grocery store for a few items. Later today I'll be attending a funeral - not mine. Maybe there'll be time for a little radio fun.

09-01-2023 - The band is a little weak into my Zero Five ground plane antenna right now. I do hear 141 in Jamaica booming in, but that's about it. Even Channel 6 is quiet. There's been a lot of local trucking chatter today. Some are local, and some are local because they're going by on the highway. All chatter matters.

09-01-2023 - I'm reminded of the time, back in the late 1960s, I was invited to sit in on a local CB Radio club meeting. I remember one member bragging that his radio "kicked out" six watts! I was so new in the CB game that I was impressed! I didn't join the club, by the way.

09-01-2023 - Program 145.800 MHz into your scanner, and you'll be ready for the next air-to-ground portion of International Space Station astronauts talking school kids or other Amateur Radio operators. You won't hear the ground stations unless they're very close to you.

09-01-2023 - Good morning! It's a new month, and maybe the weather will start to cool down. I hear two local truckers chatting on CB Radio Channel 19. It's a little early to expect much more. The band will be open soon, hopefully.

08-31-2023 - There's an oversize load making its way through town, with the pilot cars working on Channel 19. We get a lot of those. Sometimes, we get an influx of those big wind turbine blades and associated parts. Depending on the route, some of those "blade runners" have to make a 90 degree turn. Those are always fun to watch and listen to.
