12-13-2023 - It's 4:30 AM and I'm up drinking coffee and listening to Morse code on the 40 meter Amateur (ham) Radio band. I have no idea why I'm awake so early. This might require a nap later in the day.

12-12-2023 - Its 8:00 PM and the Clay County Amateur Radio Club is on te air with their weekly Skywarn practice net. Tune in to 146.680 MHz with your scanner, or check in if you're a ham.

12-12-2023 - I got a chance to check CB Radio Channel 23 tonight and the Local Group was in there, as usual. I haven't been able to check on them for a while. Give them a listen - 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM - if you have a CB Radio.

12-12-2023 - From the U.S. Federal Trade Commission - FTC Announces CARS Rule to Fight Scams in Vehicle Shopping - Combating Auto Retail Scams (CARS) Rule targets bait-and-switch tactics, junk fees; includes clear protections for military members, who are frequent targets for vehicle scams. The Federal Trade Commission has finalized a new rule to fight two common types of illegal tactics consumers face when buying a car: bait-and-switch tactics and hidden junk fees. The new rule is expected to save consumers nationwide more than $3.4 billion and an estimated 72 million hours each year shopping for vehicles.

12-12-2023 - On the scanner, Walmart - 154.570 MHz - is coming alive and the school buses - 152.360 MHz - should kick in shortly. The State Hospital - 154.800 MHz - is active and, of course, the Allred Unit - 153.815 MHz - never sleeps. Well, maybe an isolated officer here and there, but you know what I mean.

12-12-2023 - Good Morning! I'm tuning back and forth between some locals and not-so-locals chatting on Amateur (ham) Radio frequency 1947 kHz, and some Morse code on the 40-meter band. A Cuban station on 7.021 MHz has a very "chirpy" Morse code signal. I always find those amusing. I'm throwing in some Folgers Black Silk coffee to help it all make sense at this early - 0530 - hour.

12-11-2023 - At 7:00 PM, someone is transmitting tones again on 146.520 MHz (Amateur Radio). I have no idea what that is all about. Oh well, I'll let someone else worry about it because it's time for Monday Night Football!

12-11-2023 - AUSTIN – Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is warning citizens that scammers are sending fraudulent emails using his name, signature, and the Office of the Attorney General ("OAG") Seal to obtain sensitive personal information. 12-11-2023 - From the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics - Employment and average weekly wages increased in all of the 10 largest U.S. counties from June 2022 to June 2023. Harris County, Texas, had the largest over-the-year percentage increase in employment, at 3.6 percent, followed by Miami-Dade County, Florida (3.5 percent), and Maricopa County, Arizona (2.6 percent). In June 2023, national employment rose to 154.3 million, a 2.4-percent increase from June 2022.

12-11-2023 - This morning, I tuned in to 145.800 MHz to see if I could hear any of the International Space Station side of the scheduled Amateur (ham) Radio contact with Harbor Creek School, Harbor Creek, PA. I did hear the first one minute of the contact. The space station had to be quite far away from Wichita Falls and was probably moving away. Even at an altitude of 250 miles, the radio footprint has limits. I have heard extended radio contacts with schools in the past and will probably hear more in the future. The best policy is to keep 145.800 MHz - the ISS VHF downlink frequency - in the rotation on your scanner.

12-11-2023 - From the U.S. Federal Trade Commission - The Federal Trade Commission has obtained proposed orders against the operators of a wide-ranging scheme known as “The Sales Mentor” that made millions by falsely promising consumers that they could make big money from telemarketing sales. The defendants have agreed to proposed court orders that would require them to pay a total of $1 million for consumer refunds.

12-11-2023 - Good Morning! As you know, that means it's probably Folgers Black Silk time! I've deleted all social media accounts related to this website. I still have a Twitter account - for now - that's unrelated to this site. It's still a good source of news. Again, for now.

12-10-2023 - At 8:15 AM I see/hear that our local Air Evac Lifeteam helicopter is inbound from the north-northwest. Tune in to their operations at 159.900 MHz on your scanner.

12-10-2023 - At 7:15 AM the hunters are out hunting again on 151.820 MHz again. They're always close enough for me to hear at least one of them and they're always chasing something. Are there that many deer to be chased? I'm not a hunter so I don't know. What I've never heard is "I got him!" Tune in to the chase action with your scanner.

12-10-2023 - Forecast - Today: Sunny, with a high near 54. Northwest wind 6 to 8 mph becoming south in the afternoon. Tonight: Clear, with a low around 33. South wind 7 to 9 mph. The Dallas Cowboys will beat the Philadelphia Eagles.
