01-04-2024 - I'm trying to make a few "Parks on the Air®" contacts this morning, but 20 meters is not cooperating. That, and everyone seems to be drowning out my puny signal. But that's what makes low-power operation fun. I could crank up the power, but I won't. What fun is it to bust every pileup every time? I'd rather work for it.
01-04-2024 - From the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics - In 2022, the proportion of the civilian noninstitutional population age 16 and over who worked at some time during the year increased by 0.5 percentage point to 63.8 percent in 2022; this was 1.1 percentage points lower than the pre-pandemic figure in 2019.
01-04-2024 - I'm listening to the Texas Traffic Net on 7285 kHz this morning. I might tune in to the 7290 Traffic Net later on, you guessed it, 7290 kHz. I don't check in, but the chatter makes good background noise. Ham ASMR?
01-04-2024 - NWS forecast - Today: Areas of dense fog before noon. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a high near 53. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph increasing to 11 to 16 mph in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 24 mph. Tonight: Showers, mainly before 3am. Low around 42. Southeast wind 13 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
01-04-2024 - Good Morning! It's coffee time once more. I'm listening to the 1947 kHz crew but I think I'll soon be looking for more Parks on the Air® to work. This is a new activity for me so I'll make the most of it while it's fun.
01-03-2024 - I made another 20-meter CW (Morse code) Parks on the Air® contact today. It was a short trip for my radio waves to Arrowhead State Park. The Operator was Dave, KA5CRL. I spent most of my POTA efforts configuring the ARRL's Logbook of the World and the POTA website. I've got it all figured out now and I'm ready to go park-hunting!
01-03-2024 - From the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics - People born from 1957 to 1964, the latter years of the baby boom, held an average of 12.7 jobs from ages 18 to 56. Nearly half of these jobs were held before age 25. On average, men held 12.8 jobs and women held 12.5 jobs.
01-03-2024 - I've moved over to CB Radio for a while. The "sideband" channels are pretty busy with a lot of stations making a lot of contacts. The sideband channels occasionally break down due to one or more fools wanting to act up but, as I always say, it's CB Radio! Sometimes I want a break from the rigid "Bueller, Bueller" that can "sometimes" be the norm in Amateur (ham) Radio. A good many of the CB Radio sideband DX'ers are hams. There's more "crossover" between the two services than most want to admit!

01-03-2024 - Good Morning. Those much-awaited school buses are back on the radio - 152.360 MHz - after the holiday break. Okay, maybe not much-awaited, but they do entertain from time to time. I finished a short 20-minute spin on my exercise bike while sipping Folgers Black Silk Coffee. I'll do a couple more, minus the coffee, sometime today. Let's see what else the day brings. Tune in to the school buses on your scanner.
01-02-2024 - Tonight at 9:00 PM, and again at 9:30 PM, on 146.520 FM simplex, someone was keying up and treating us all to the sound of their yippety yappety dog barking. I guess they were trying to outdo the person breaking wind on the same frequency a few days ago. I don't know what to think about all this.

01-02-2024 - Good Morning! It's 9:00 AM. I've been up since 5:30 AM, tuned in to the 1947 kHz group, drank plenty of coffee, and now I'm listening to the Texas Traffic Net on 7285 kHz. What I need to do is find a good CW (Morse code) net to listen to and, who knows, I might check in from time to time.
01-01-2024 - The year was 1970 and I was dining in a "hole in the wall" eatery - now gone - in downtown Wichita Falls. A man came in and ordered two hamburgers, with mayo, to go. The waitress yelled through the kitchen window: "Two regulars, make 'em white, and they're walking."
