01-12-2024 - Good Morning! The coffee is ready and I've got the Yaesu 857D tuned to 1947 kHz, waiting for the morning crew to show up. It's just 5:10 AM so it's a little early. Also, I haven't worked a Parks on the Air® station in a few days so maybe I'll hunt down one or two of those today. The Allred Unit prison is active, as usual, on 153.815 Mhz. Listen in with your scanner radio.

01-11-2024 - At 3:25 PM I'm hearing an Amateur (ham) Radio "aeronautical mobile" on 146.520 FM simplex. The operator mentioned Mineral Wells so I guess that's his approximate location. I didn't hear an aircraft type or altitude. He's talking to a ground station that I cannot hear, of course.

01-11-2024 - I received an email from the U.S. Federal Trade Commission saying that I was entitled to part of the settlement from Cafe Press related to my Social Security number being exposed during a past Cafe Press breach. Research shows that the settlement total was $500,000 and the total account holders affected was around 184,000. The attorneys will, no doubt, get 30-35% of that $500,000. If all 184,000 victims fill out the claim form, we'll all get about $2.00! If only half file a claim, we'll get a whopping $4.00, or somewhere in that range. The only winners here are the attorneys. I'll update this with the results.

01-11-2024 - Good Morning! I got the coffee, exercise bike, and the morning session of the 1947 kHz crew out of the way. The weather should be nice today but it looks like we have a very deep freeze headed our way in a few days. Be ready to drip those faucets.

01-10-2024 - Good Morning! I was up early, but I'm posting late - a lot of chores this morning. I did listen to the morning crew on 1947 kHZ, and last evening I heard them on 3948 kHz. I forgot that they assemble around 4:00 PM on that frequency.

01-09-2024 - I made a CW (Morse code) contact with KW5CW in Waddill Wildlife Refuge - US-10119 - in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program.

The coffee is ready and I've got the scanner radio on waiting for radio activity around town to include Walmart (154.570 MHz), the Allred Unit (153.815 MHz), the County Jail (155.520 - MHz), the State Hospital (154.800 MHz) the city transit buses (453.5375 MHz), school handheld radios (151.940 MHz), and the school buses (152.360 MHz).

01-08-2024 - I made contact with Amateur (ham) Radio station AC4BT, operating out of Fort Marcy National Historical Site in Virginia on 20 meters this morning. This was another Parks on the Air® operation and the contact mode was CW (Morse code).

01-08-2024 - From the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics - Employment increased in 30 large metropolitan areas (those with a population of at least 1 million in the 2010 Census) from November 2022 to November 2023 and was essentially unchanged in 21 large metropolitan areas. The largest percentage increases occurred in Jacksonville, Florida; Las Vegas-Henderson-Paradise, Nevada; and Raleigh, North Carolina (3.8 percent each).

01-08-2024 - Good Morning! We have rain in the forecast but it looks like we'll be lucky to get a good sprinkle. The coffee is ready and the local Amateur (ham) Radio 1947 kHz group is on the air. There's also some local weather-related chatter on 147.570 MHz. Do you have that plugged into your Scanner?

01-07-2024 - It's Sunday, 8:00 PM, and the Wichita Amateur Radio Society weekly informal net is on the air on the club's 147.140 MHz repeater. All licensed Amateur (ham) Radio operators are invited to check in. Scanner listeners are also welcome. Also, the Cowboys won (Washington Commanders) and the Eagles lost (New York Giants).

01-07-2024 - I took a break from the Falcons-Saints game to work KG8CO again, this time in Petersburg State Game Land in Michigan. The contact was made on 20 meters using CW (Morse code).
