02-22-2024 - Good Morning! Another nice day, weatherwise, is in the forecast. I did enough manual labor yesterday - mowed the yard - so I'll take today off and juts play radio and scribble in this journal. I didn't work any Parks on the Air stations yesterday so maybe I'll work two today. Right now, it's coffee time!

02-21-2024 - My neighbor is raising quail in his backyard. An area hawk is very interested in those caged quail. I watched the hawk drop down into the yard to assess the possibilities of an afternoon snack. The hawk departed, somewhat frustrated. He'll probably return with a b1rd-3 cutting torch.

02-21-2024 - My QCX-Mini 20 Meter QRP (5 watt) CW transceiver has been shipped, or so the FedEx email says. It's supposed to arrive sometime Monday. We shall see. I don't have any immediate plans to put it into operation. I'll wait until we have consistently warmer weather before I hit the local parks. Wichita Falls parks - not being federal or state - do not qualify for the Parks on the Air® program. I just want to play radio and roast weenies! I'll post a radio pic later.

02-21-2024 - Good Morning! The weather forecast is calling for a blazing 83 degrees today. I might mow my yard, getting it ready for spring. And, I might not. Right now, I'll pour a cup of Folgers Black Silk coffee! I'll probably take some time out to snag a few more Parks on the Air® stations. I don't "chase paper" (collect certificates or awards) but I enjoy the fascination of making contacts using Morse code. Maybe it's because it's the original digital communications mode.

02-20-2024 - The Clay County Amateur Radio Club conducts a weekly Skywarn practice net on Tuesdays at 8:00 PM on the club's 146.800 MHz repeater. All licensed Amateur Radio Operators are invited to check in. Scanner listeners are also welcome.

02-20-2024 - There's a lot of railroad traffic on 160.920 MHz this morning. I don't know anything about trains so I don't understand a lot of what I'm hearing. For now, anyway. If you're a train buff, or even if you're not, tune in to the action with your scanner radio.

02-20-2024 - I've been listening to two hams on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) having a friendly chat at about 40 words per minute. I'm getting about 50% of it. I'll never be a CW speed demon, I guess. But, that's just fine with me.

02-20-2024 - I'm not a golfer, but I see "The Golf Factory" has taken up residence at 922 Indiana Ave. According to their website, they are the first indoor Trackman simulator in Wichita Falls. 940-247-4264.

02-20-2024 - Good Morning! I toured the WFISD Career Education Center yesterday and I was shocked at the multitude of educational opportunities available! I think the CEC is probably the best thing that's ever happened to Wichita Falls. At the CEC, students actually learn marketable skills. The only thing more exciting is my Folgers Black Silk coffee being ready for consumption!
