03-28-2024 - Good Morning! It has been windy and cool the last few days, but Friday through Monday should be a lot warmer. My coffee is ready and, according to my trusty Uniden scanner radio, so are the school bus (152.360 MHz) and city transit bus (453.5375 MHz) drivers! I'm also tuned to CB Radio Channel 19 to soak up some local trucking chatter while I enjoy my Folgers Black Silk coffee. I might even take a moment to feel sorry for those poor folks waiting in line for that Starbucks stuff!
03-27-2024 - I just noticed that a Parks on the Air® station I worked yesterday put me down for two parks. I guess he was at the border of those two parks. That can happen. The bad news is that he marked the contacts as "Phone (SSB)" contacts. Nope. It was CW or Morse code. I don't suppose it's a big deal since I'm not chasing any awards. I know it was CW. That's all that matters to me.

03-27-2024 - Do we have "organic scammers" in Wichita Falls? It's Wednesday, and the city trash trucks are making the rounds emptying those green residential trash cans. I don't have such a can but today, the truck stopped in front of my house while the driver checked what could be a list of addresses that have a green can and/or get two regular cans. I'm guessing some people are putting their regular can out on Wednesday hoping the truck will just pick it up. I guess this guy isn't going to get scammed. I don't know how it works now, but years ago, sanitation workers could go home when they finished their route. This might still be the case because one day a driver was slinging those cans up and back down so fast, that trash was flying everywhere! Also, years ago, you could monitor the Sanitation Department on a standard scanner radio. Now, they've gone dark (digital) like most other City departments.
03-27-2024 - I read the book "News of the World" a year or so ago. A few days ago I watched the movie on Peacock. I thought the book was great, and I had doubts about the movie keeping up the pace. My doubts were put to rest - the movie was as good as the book. That's my opinion, anyway. How can a movie that begins in Wichita Falls be bad?
03-27-2024 - NWS Forecast - Today: A slight chance of showers before 10am, then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4pm. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 62. East wind 6 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%. Tonight: A 10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 7pm. Partly cloudy, with a low around 37. Northeast wind 6 to 13 mph, with gusts as high as 20 mph.
03-27-2024 - Good Morning! I climbed out of bed at the unbelievably late hour of 6:00 AM! I started the Folgers Black Silk coffee brewing and flipped on the scanner radio. I hear our local City transit buses (463.5375 MHZ) and our local school buses (152.360 MHz) are preparing for the day. Who will have the most fun? You'll have to tune in with your scanner radio to find out! It's cold outside this morning so I'll throw a fireplace video on the big-screen TV. As I've mentioned before, the real fireplace is at the other end of the house, not in my radio shack.
