06-09-2025 - 5:15 AM - ERCOT (Texas) snapshot of grid conditions - ERCOT reports that conditions are normal and there is enough power for current demand with an operating reserve of 12,070 Megawatts.

06-09-2025 - 5:15 AM - NWS Forecast - Today: Showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm before 7am. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 85. North northeast wind around 7 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms. 06-09-2025 - 5:00 AM - Good Morning! It's Monday and the Dastardly Derecho didn't happen. Not even a tree branch disturbed, let alone the DVD-size hail they said was possible. I was ready for rhe worst, but I'm glad it didn't happen. I saw a report of a 100 MPH gust recorded in Hefner, Texas and another in southern, Oklahoma, I think. That's means we dodged a bullet. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready. This morning, I'm adding a slice of cold pizza from United Market Street.

06-08-2025 - Local Amateur (ham) Radio Skywarn® weather spotters are issuing a weather update on the 146.940 MHz repeater. Tune in with your scanner radio.

06-08-2025 - 9:30 AM - This morning, the CB Radio band is jumping, and Channel 6, the "Super Bowl" of CB Radio, is screaming. CB is no longer for children or the timid, but it's still fun. It's the only option for license-free, long-distance communications. Who knows when we might need it? Some prefer the more regimented Amateur (ham ) Radio Service, with gate-keepers and kilocycle kops. Don't be fooled; many of those hams come out of the closet now and then and "key down" on Channel 38, Lower Sideband. There are probably more than a few on Channel 6.

06-08-2025 - The Wichita Amateur Radio Society holds a weekly informal net on Sundays at 8:00 PM on the club's 147.140 MHz repeater. As far as I know, all licensed Amateur (ham) Radio operators are invited to check in. Of course, scanner radio enthusiasts can also tune in. HOWEVER, the informal net will not be held tonight if the area Skywarn® weather spotters have been activated. According to the current forecast, this is a good possibility.

There is the possiblity of severe weather tonight with the threat for us being high winds and large hail. I'm hoping this weather system calms down somewhat before reaching us. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready!

06-07-2025 - This morning, the 20-meter Amateur (ham) Radio band was in fair condition, with several strong stations. I don't want to contact those stations, so I'll check back later. I'll turn the CB Radio on for background noise. Yep, I like it for listening. I talk on the CB Radio a few times a year, whether I need to or not! My CB Radio contacts are usually in the form of "radio checks" or local information.
