07-20-2025 - 10:45 AM - I no longer attend hamfests. I've seen about all there is to see at those events. I don't buy used equipment unless it's a "curiosity" item like the old Heathkit "lunchbox" "Twoer" I purchased about 20 years ago. I've never sold anything at a hamfest. I drove 100 miles to a hamfest about a decade ago, only to find five tables. One table had a few new radios. The other four had what I would classify as absolute trash. Stuff that should have been thrown away. I wanted to ask for a refund of the entry fee, plus $10 for gas. Some will say hamfests are a great way to see the people yoy've been talking to. In other words, the old "eyeball QSO." That's the last reason I would go to a hamfest. I don't want to know what they look like. I like the mystery of it all. Your mileage may vary.
07-20-2025 - 3:30 PM - The band is very quiet this afternoon, but that's not unusual. Everyone needs a nap. I hear a station on Channel 25 speaking a language I can't identify. That's okay because the channel being in use is more important than the user's language.
07-20-2025 - 9:00 PM - Not much to report this evening. I had the CB Radio running most of the afternoon and evening. I had everything but three Multi-Use Radio Services frequencies locked out of my scanner, so I would be sure not to miss anything on those frequencies. I didn't hear a peep all day. I'm still trying to identify the guys on 151.940 MHz. Maybe tomorrow.
07-19-2025 - 6:00 AM - Good Morning! It's Saturday. I mowed the yard yesterday, so my list of chores for today is sitting right at zero. I haven't heard a sound on the CB Radio in the last 15 minutes. As soon as I wrote the previous sentence, someone local spoke on Channel 1. What's happening on the CB Radio at your location? And finally, if you're in line at a big-name coffee house, leave now and visit a local coffee house! You can go to that big-name place later. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.
07-19-2025 - 6:35 AM - I haven't heard the usual users of the MURS radio frequencies in the last few days. All five frequencies have been quiet. That's unusual. They'll all pile in over the next day or so to make up for it.

07-19-2025 - 7:00 AM - In North Texas, it sounds like Channel 6, the "superbowl", will open the band this morning. I hear a few other channels trying to break through. Someone is conducting extensive testing on Channel 7. It could be a "superbowl" person not wanting to disrupt Channel 6. Trucking radio traffic might be light on Channel 29 today.
07-19-2025 - 10:10 AM - I have the President McKinley CB Radio on scan and there is traffic on channels 6, 7, 8, 9, 11, 15, 19, 20, 21, 23, 28, 30, 32, 36, and 38. CB Radio is dead! Long live CB Radio! At 10:30 AM, Channels 25 and 33 have joined the fun!
07-19-2025 - 12:30 PM - A few years ago, I registered the domain CitizensBandRadio.com. It cost around $11. I let it expire. A few months ago, I thought about registering it again, if no one had it. The domain people wanted $4,999 for it. I have a suggestion as to what they can do with it.
07-19-2025 - 6:15 PM - The Local Group in my town is on the air on Channel 23. The band overall was quite sleepy in the early afternoon. It's barely awake now.

07-18-2025 - 5:15 AM - Good Morning! It's Friday and, for many, the end of the work week. I'm retired so Fridays don't have the same significance for me. Yesterday was a good day for CB Radio, as are most. The band was open most of the day. Today will probably be another good day. Remember, antennas are more important than amplifiers. Some will say, "I'll get a big antenna and a big amplifier." If all amplifiers disappeared, CB Radio would be a much happier place. I know, it'll never happen. You can help the cause by taking your amplifier outside and smashing it with a sledge hammer. We all know that's not going to happen so I'll just pour my first cup of coffee!
07-18-2025 - 6:30 AM - Local trucking radio traffic is picking up on Channels 19 and 25. The rest of the band has yet to awaken, but it's only 6:30 AM.

07-18-2025 - 3:00 PM - The band is asleep this afternoon. Even the truckers don't feel like talking about the lane closure on the highway a half-mile from me. In the past, I've pic up the mic and announced, on Channel 19, "If you're trying to sneak through town without talking on the radio, raise your hand." That usually gets a few laughs.
07-18-2025 - 3:45 PM - I can't imagine a reason why CB Radio manufacturers are still cranking out radios with a "channel 9" button. Channel 9 would not enter my mind as a place to call for help. Decades ago, active R.E.A.C.T. groups were monitoring Channel 9, but even they weren't everywhere. Some say that certain Highway Patrol vehicles in some states are still equipped with CB radios. My guess is that they're probably listening to Channel 19. These days, I'd put my money and my chances of getting an answer on Channel 19. Your opnion on this topic might vary.
07-17-2025 - 5:00 AM - Good Morning! It's Thursday, and the band is already alive. Weak, but alive. We're just beginning a descent from the peak of Solar Cycle 25, so there should be several more years of a skip-shooter's paradise. I see a few local channels active that I didn't know were in regular use. Maybe they're just passing through town. CB Radio is like a box of chocolates; you never know what you're going to get. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.
07-17-2025 - 5:20 AM - Yesterday, I spoke about aeronautical mobiles. Now I would like to mention the possibility of taking handheld CB and MURS radios to "high" places, such as tower restaurants with observation decks, summits of varying altitudes, and so on. Maybe the "over the highway" restaurant in Vinita, Oklahoma, to see how many truckers you can talk to on the CB Radio while enjoying a burger and fries. You can think of other interesting places, I'm sure.
07-17-2025 - 7:00 AM - It's a little amusing when people online see a box with a few dials and a microphone, and they automatically assume it's a CB Radio. For many, that's all they've ever heard of. That's probably due to some well-known movies of questionable value to the hobby. Well, they're not questionable to me, but that's another story.
