07-28-2025 - 5:30 AM - Good Morning! It's Monday, and a good time for Wichita Falls area Hobby Radio enthusiasts to make the short climb to the top of Mount Murphy in Lake Wichita Park with your handheld radio and make a contact! I know it's only 80 feet high, but it's all we've got! If you're feeling adventurous, you can set up a contact between Mount Murphy and Mount Trashmore (landfill) in Iowa Park. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.

07-28-2025 - 10:15 AM - The CB Radio band is wide open with the usual DX channels active. I've heard very little local traffic on Channel 19. Those guys are back on 151.940 MHz - the Multi-Use Radio Service - and I'm still trying to figure out what kind of business they're involved in. I'm nosy.

07-28-2025 - 12:30 PM - Radio traffic is picking up on CB Radio Channel 19. It sounds like TxDOT has resumed the replacement of overhead signs on I-44 they've been working on, but several oversized loads have made it through town with little difficulty

07-28-2025 - 10:45 AM - From the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics - Economics Daily - Median weekly earnings of the nation's 121.5 million full-time wage and salary workers were $1,196 in the second quarter of 2025. This was 4.6 percent higher than a year earlier, compared with a gain of 2.4 percent in the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) over the same period. Women had median weekly earnings of $1,078, or 81.1 percent of the $1,330 median for men. By age, usual weekly earnings were highest for men ages 35 to 54: median weekly earnings were $1,502 for men ages 35 to 44 and $1,520 for men ages 45 to 54. Among women, usual weekly earnings were also highest for workers ages 35 to 54: median weekly earnings were $1,190 for women ages 35 to 44 and $1,189 for women ages 45 to 54. Men and women ages 16 to 24 had the lowest median weekly earnings, $797 and $712, respectively. Men's and women's earnings were closer among younger workers than older workers; for example, women ages 16 to 24 earned 89.3 percent as much as men in the same age group, while the women's-to-men's earnings ratio was 78.2 percent for those age 55 and over.

07-28-2025 - 2:30 PM - From the U.S. Federal Communications Commission - IMPLEMENTATION OF THE NATIONAL SUICIDE HOTLINE ACT OF 2018. The FCC adopts rules to require wireless providers to transmit data that enables text messages sent to the 988 Lifeline to be routed to the closest local crisis center based on a person's general geographic location.. (Dkt No 18-336). Action by: The Commission. Adopted: 2025-07-24 by ORDER. (FCC No. 25-42). WCB

07-28-2025 - 2:40 PM - On CB Radio Channel 38, Lower Sideband, I hear "605" with a booming signal from Southern California. On Channel 25, another oversized load is coming through town. You never know where these will pop up, so having a radio with a "scan" function is helpful. Of course, Channels 6 and 11 are busy, but you probably already knew that. Now on Channel 38, Lower Sideband, is "338" in Florida with broadcast-quality audio.

07-28-2025 - 6:00 PM - The Local Group is on the air on CB Radio Channel 23 and a station in Puerto Rico can be heard in the background.

07-27-2025 - 5:30 AM - Good Morning! It's Sunday, and our local Wichita Amateur Radio Society will conduct its weekly informal net on the club's 147.140 MHz repeater. As far as I know, all licensed Amateur (ham) Radio Operators are invited to check in. You can also tune in with your scanner radio. On the CB Radio, the band is opening nicely this morning. Hopefully, the band will be much more alive than it was yesterday. On Channel 32, someone is talking about the need to upgrade their vehicle's alternator. That sounds like he intends to run slightly more than four or five watts! My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.

07-27-2025 - 5:40 AM - NWS Wichita Falls Forecast - Today: Mostly sunny and hot, with a high near 99. Heat index values as high as 103. South wind 9 to 11 mph. Tonight" Partly cloudy, with a low around 78. South wind around 10 mph.

07-27-2025 - 5:45 AM - Current National Short Range Weather Forecast

07-27-2025 - 6:30 AM - I'm getting good dining reports on the Loft at Picker's. The Loft is above the Picker's Universe store at 10th and Indiana. You can enter from the south parking lot or the Indiana Street main entrance. Be careful driving on 10th Street between Scott and Indiana. In its current condition, that short stretch of road could rattle your vehicle apart!

07-27-2025 - 7:00 AM - The CB Radio band continues to improve. The usual DX channels are abuzz with activity. This is good because Mother Nature needs to make up for her 11-meter performance yesterday.

07-27-2025 - 9:00 AM - On CB Radio Channel 38, Lower sideband, I hear stations in Texas, Alabama, Oklahoma, South Carolina, and Florida racking up the contacts. Sideband communications, for the most part, are more tame and orderly compared to their AM counterparts. It's all fun and there's room for everyone. On the practical side, Hobby Radio enthusiasts will not have to worry about assembling a working radio station to communicate during disasters. Their stations are already up and running, and each "fun" radio contact is practice for the real thing.

07-27-2025 - 6:00 PM - The Local Group is active on CB Radio Channel 23. Meanwhile, some local Amateur (ham) Radio Operators are trying to do a "phone patch" contact with a ham who is in the hosptal

07-26-2025 - 4:30 AM - Good Morning! It's Saturday, and I expect the band to be wall-to-wall with signals. Have you noticed that, in both written and spoken language, we no longer connect electronic parts and components? Instead of connecting them, we hook them up. You see it and hear it all the time. I hooked the coax to my tuner, but nothing happened. Maybe I hooked it up wrong. My coffee is ready. I'll see if I can hook it to my cup.

07-26-2025 - 5:00 AM - Wichita Falls Forecast - Today: Sunny and hot, with a high near 101. Heat index values as high as 105. South wind 7 to 9 mph. Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 78. South wind around 10 mph.
