08-05-2025 - From the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics - Economics Daily - Nonfarm payroll employment increased from June 2024 to June 2025 in 30 metropolitan areas and was essentially unchanged in 357 areas. The largest over-the-year percentage increases in employment occurred in Myrtle Beach-Conway-North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina (+5.2 percent), Rochester, Minnesota (+4.8 percent), and St. George, Utah (+4.3 percent). In terms of number of employees, the employment increases in these three areas ranged from 8,200 in the Myrtle Beach area to 3,700 in St. George. Employment also increased by over 4.0 percent in College Station-Bryan, Texas, and Charleston-North Charleston, South Carolina. The largest over-the-year employment increases occurred in New York-Newark-Jersey City, New York-New Jersey (+110,100 or 1.1 percent), Los Angeles-Long Beach-Anaheim, California (+53,600 or 0.9 percent), and Philadelphia-Camden-Wilmington, PA-NJ-DE-MD (+46,500 or 1.5 percent). 08-05-2025 - From the U.S. Federal Trade Commission - The Federal Trade Commission is sending a total of $743,230 to student loan borrowers harmed by a debt relief scam that falsely promised loan forgiveness and bilked students out of millions. In its complaint against BCO Consulting Services Inc., SLA Consulting Services Inc. and their owners Gianni Olilang, Brandon Clores, Kishan Bhakta, and Allan Radam, the FTC alleged the operators lured students seeking to reduce their loans into paying hundreds to thousands of dollars in illegal upfront fees. The defendants falsely told student loan borrowers that they were affiliated with the Department of Education and would take over servicing for students’ loans. The defendants convinced borrowers into believing that they were enrolled in a legitimate loan repayment program, that their loans would be forgiven in whole or in part, and that most or all of their payments to the companies would be applied to their loan balances. In reality, the defendants were pocketing students’ payments, according to the FTC’s complaint.

08-05-2025 - 2:30 PM - The license-free Multi-Use Radio Service is perfect for Wichita Falls. While low-powered, FCC rules allow for external antennas. Fixed stations with antennas 15 - 20 feet in the air, will be able to communicate across the entire city. After all, we're only a dozen miles across at the widest point.

08-05-2025 - 3:30 PM - According to news reports, a new Texas law has taken effect, requiring public school students to turn off and put away their cell phones during instructional periods. Already, there is grumbling. I don't attend school, teach in school, or have relatives in the education system, so I don't have a personal interest in this issue.

08-05-2025 - 9:00 PM - According to local news reports, a dog park is being constructed at Conoco Park. If you've seen Conoco Park, you know that it's likely to be either a people park or a dog park, since there's not much room there to begin with. It's a litte short on parking space, also. The park is at the intersection of Burkburnett Road and MLK Jr. Drive. Take a look. Time will tell.

08-04-2025 - 5:30 AM - Good Morning! It's Monday, and we got some rain last night. I don't know the exact amount, but we'll take it. According to the WFISD calendar, Hirschi Middle School starts today, 10 days earlier than the rest of the district. That means there should be some school bus radio activity on 152.360 MHz. I have my scanner radio on! Also, my Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready!

08-04-2025 - 12:00 Noon - The monthly test of the emergency sirens kicked off on time and I can say that the sirens near the Ra7dio3 Report HQ are working fine!

08-04-2025 - 1:45 PM -I just heard more of that unidentified activity on 151.940 MHz. I'm still trying to figure out what business it could be. It sounds like a business. I could be wrong. Of course, this is a frequency in the license-free, Multi-Use Radio Service (MURS), so these individuals are not required to identify themselves. I'll keep listening.

08-04-2025 - 2:30 PM - The local Amateur (ham) Radio VHF frequencies of 146.520 MHz (simplex) and 147.140 MHz (repeater) got some use today. When it comes to local rag-chewing, the CB people have the Ham Radio people beat. It is what it is.

08-04-2025 - 6:30 PM - The Local Group made it to CB Radio Channel 3 as expected. Regarding participants, the number has remained relatively stable over the years. A channel can only support a finite number of people chatting without it becoming a mess. A net is one thing, but rag-chewing is self-limiting.

08-03-2025 - 5:30 AM - Good Morning! It's Sunday, and the Wichita Amateur Radio Society holds a weekly informal net on Sundays at 8:00 PM on the club's 147.140 MHz repeater. As far as I know, all licensed Amateur (ham) Radio operators are invited to check in. Scanner radio enthusiasts can also tune in. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready. Coffee and some Morse code on the 40-meter Amateur (ham) Radio band in the background should wake me up.

08-03-2025 - 5:40 AM - Wichita Falls NWS Forecast - Today: A 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 4pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 93. Heat index values as high as 98. Southeast wind 6 to 10 mph. Tonight: A 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Some of the storms could produce heavy rainfall. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 70. East wind 8 to 10 mph. New rainfall amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.
