08-15-2025 - 5:45 AM - I noticed that the Wichita Falls Police Department Cadweb activity page is still being flagged by Bitdefender as having an "untrusted" (expired?) security certificate. This has been the case for at least a year. Perhaps I'll send them a note through the City's online portal. Anyway, 99% of police activity is of zero interest to me, so it's really no big deal.
08-15-2025 - 7:00 AM - According to a Museum of North Texas History Facebook post, August’s Pies was started by August H. Moeller in Wichita Falls in 1937. The original location was 1500 North 6th Street. In the 1950s, Moeller opened a bakery in Lubbock and moved the Wichita Falls location to 500 N. Broadway. That’s the location I remember, and the pies, available in local stores, were excellent. I don’t remember when the N. Broadway location closed, but United Supermarkets bought the business name and recipes in 2020. I know that you could buy August’s Pies at United in Wichita Falls 10 - 15 years ago, but the quality was not good. To me, they tasted like they had been in transit for a month. I have not seen or heard of the pies in the last 10 or more years.

08-14-2025 -5:30 AM - Good Morning. It's Thursday, and I can't think of anything radio-important happening today other than the rest of the Wichita Falls ISD schools starting today. That means more school bus radio traffic on 152.360 MHz and, if you’re near a school, handheld radio traffic on 151.940 MHz. As for the buses, you drive your route, pick up kids, and drop them off at the designated schools. What could go wrong? Tune in with your scanner radio and find out. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.

08-14-2025 - 7:00 AM - What happened to the County Hunters Net? This was a net for those Amateur (ham) Radio operators wanting to make contact with a station in every county - 3077 recognized by the County Hunter program - in the USA. Did it fizzle out? As far as I can tell, the net, or nets, have been replaced by a county spotter website. I never got involved in County Hunting, but I would occasionally listen. I'll always remember those 2x2 signal reports when conditions were bad: "Two Two - Rifle Shot - Bang Bang!"
08-14-2025 - 7:15 AM - Have you seen casino dealers clap their hands and show them, palms up, for the overhead cameras? It’s known as “clearing the hands”, showing that no chips or money are being concealed. Sometimes, at the Walmart self-checkout, after I’ve scanned my last item, I’ll clap my hands and show them, palms up. I'm sure they think I'm nuts.

08-14-2025 - 11:15 AM - I hear Parks on the Air® stations on 20-meter CW (Morse code) in MA, MD, OH, IN, IL, NV, and GA. I might try to make contact with a few of them. On the POTA spotter page, I have it set for 20 meters and CW only. I have no interest in making voice contacts. Decades ago, I was on the bands yelling for the attention of DX and/or special event stations. I just can't see myself doing that again. Morse code might not be the future, but it's my future when it comes to the HF bands. Do what makes you happy.
08-14-2025 - 11:48 AM - I contacted a station in Prescott National Forest (US-4431) in Arizona on 20 meters (14 MHz) CW (Morse code) in the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® program. POTA hunter count: 545.
08-14-2025 - 12:10 PM - Local traffic has popped up on CB Radio Channel 1. It sounds like something involving trucking. It is unknown if these are the same people I usually hear in the early mornings. Channel 19 trucking traffic was busier early this morning, but it’s a little light right now. Even the DX channels are a little light at the moment.
