07-24-2025 - 5:30 AM - Good Morning! It's Thursday. The CB Radio is quiet so far. Not even a peep locally. We are currently in Solar Cycle 25, which began in December 2019. It will bottom out around 2030. So, we're at the peak and we'll slowly start the downhill slide. Conditions will be excellent for long-distance communications for a few more years, and we'll begin to notice the difference. Even at the minimum in 2030, there will still be band openings from time to time; it just won't be a daily, or all day, occurrence like it is now. Local communications will be a lot easier. My coffee is ready.
07-24-2025 - 5:45 AM - We have a new "luxury" RV park in Wichita Falls at U.S. 287 and Loop 11 (the loop that doesn't loop), and it seems to be doing well. The park features pickleball, swimming, a dog run, fishing, a laundry room, an exercise room, bathrooms, and a clubhouse. I haven't seen many CB Radio antennas. How can you travel without a CB Radio? Unthinkable!
07-24-2025 - 6:45 AM - Channel 19 is coming alive locally, and I hear distant signals breaking the squelch. I use squelch? Only when I have the radio on 40-channel scan. If I'm sitting on one channel, then no squelch. Squelch is out of the question. No real CBer uses squelch in a non-scan setting. You'll miss weak signals. Plus, I need to hear that background noise. For me, that's part of the CB Radio experience. Your joy of noise might vary.

07-24-2025 - 11:00 AM - From the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics - South Dakota had the lowest state unemployment rate in June 2025, 1.8 percent. The District of Columbia had the highest jobless rate, 5.9 percent. The next highest rates were in California and Nevada, 5.4 percent each. In total, 18 states had unemployment rates lower than the U.S. figure of 4.1 percent, 6 states and the District had higher rates, and 26 states had rates that were not appreciably different from that of the nation. Nineteen states and the District of Columbia had unemployment rates higher than in June 2024, the largest increase was in Mississippi (+1.1 percentage points). Four states had over-the-year rate decreases, the largest of which was in Indiana (-0.6 percentage point). Twenty-seven states had jobless rates that were not notably different from those of a year earlier, though some had changes that were at least as large numerically as the significant changes.
07-24-2025 - 1:15 PM - Another oversized load is passing through town with communications conducted on Channel 19. Yesterday, I mentioned a traffic jam on the highway, causing fits for truckers and everyone else. Today, I see that the jam is due to the highway department erecting new overhead signs. They have two of the four lanes shut down. At least we aren't under continuous 24/7/365 construction like the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex.
7-24-2025 - 3:15 PM - FCC Moves to ‘Delete, Delete, Delete’ Telegraph, Rabbit-Ear Receiver, Phone Booth, and Other Obsolete Regulations Deregulatory Docket Leverages Streamlined Process to Remove Obsolete Regulations. Read the full summary HERE.
07-24-2025 - 4:00 PM - The band has been quiet today as far as DX goes. This condition has made listening to local traffic easier. There has been plenty of that with drivers yacking about lane closures. CB Radio is far from dead. What we need is more CB Radio-equipped cars. Why should truckers have all the fun?
07-24-2025 - 6:00 PM - The Local Group is on the air as usual on Channel 23. Some of them are more regular than others. The group, overall, is smaller than it was five or so years ago. Nothing stays the same.
07-23-2025 - 6:30 AM - Good Morning! It's Wednesday. Someone take a handheld CB Radio to the top of the Gateway Arch in St. Louis, get near a window, and attempt to make contact with a trucker passing by on I-70. The whole city will be yours at that altitude. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.

07-23-2025 - 7:00 AM - On the CB Radio locally, I hear two guys speaking Spanish on CB Radio Channel 19. I'm still hearing more Spanish since our government and social media have mentioned that all truckers need to be proficient in English. Some of this increased incidence of Spanish might be just a little pranking.

07-23-2025 - 7:30 AM - The RF Bomb. It's a tiny transmitter set to the frequency that someone is using to disrupt radio communications maliciously. It's dropped off near their antenna. In the old days, vigilantes would "pin the coax" of a violator. As both transmitters and drones continue to shrink in size, the delivery of such an RF bomb is becoming increasingly easier. It only takes a few milliwatts of power, so only the violator would hear it. Of course, it's illegal, so I'm not advocating its use, but I have heard of them. Unfortunately, its mention is often associated with CB Radio, but Ham Radio people aren't angels, either.

07-23-2025 - 12:45 PM - There was a lot of information in today's FCC Daily Digest, but none of it was of "Hobby Radio" interest.
07-23-2025 - 2:15 PM - The CB Radio band is wide open this afternoon, with traffic on the usual DX channels, and some in between.
07-23-2025 - 3:00 PM - Yet another trucker passed through town sounding like he's in the bottom of a barrel with a mouth full of rubber bands. I'll bet that if he had a problem with his bank account, and the bank employee on the phone sounded like that, he'd throw a fit. Or, maybe they'd fall in love.
07-23-2025 - 3:30 PM - A trucker on Channel 19 described the slowdown on one of the highways through town as a "Backup from Hell!" I don't know the cause of the backup, but truckers are pretty upset.
07-23-2025 - 8:00 PM - The band is still open with a lot of Spanish being heard on Channel 1. Spanish is more frequently heard on Channel 9, but it can happen anywhere. Remember, Channel 9 is not a designated emergency/traveler assistance channel in most other countries. The Jersey Coastal ALERT Emergency Services, Inc. (JCAES) is attemptig to revive and promote the monitoring of Channel 9 nationwide. According to their website, they've been around over 50 years. Google them if you're interested. I don't link for a reason. After four innings, the Texas Rangers are ahead of the Oakland Athletics, 1 - 0.
07-22-2025 - 5:30 AM - Good Morning! I'm surprised that the band is already trying to open. I hear weak signal on the usual DX channels 6, 11, and 38. While Channel 19 is not a DX channel, the skip-shooters won't stay off of it. I hear two local truckers successfully working through the noise. We're in for a good skip-shooting day. Those of you wanting local communications will have to work that squelch knob! My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready!
