08-07-2025 - 3:45 PM - The After Hours Art Walk takes place tonight from 6:00 to 9:00 PM in downtown Wichita Falls. I attended this event a few years ago, and the heat took all the pleasure out of it. I'm not into art, so I guess I didn't really miss anything. We need a Hobby Radio sidewalk sale, but not in August!
08-07-2025 - 6:00 PM - The Local Group is active on CB Radio Channel 23. Tune in or join in.
08-07-2025 - 6:45 PM - I hear an Amateur (ham) Radio operator atop Mount Scott making contacts on 146.520 MHz. He asked the station he was in contact with to switch to an area repeater. If you're 800 feet above the average terrain, why do you need a repeater? Okay, my simplex bias is showing. He's having fun, that's all that matters.
08-06-2025 - 5:00 AM - Good Morning! It's Wednesday, and about the only thing going on the scanner radio this hour is the Wichita County Jail (155.520 MHz), the North Texas State Hospital (154.800 MHz), and the James V. Allred Unit (153.815 MHz). More of the usual scanning suspects will start to appear later. It might be yard maintenance day around the Ra7dio3 Report HQ, and it might not. That task is mood-dependent. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.
08-06-2025 - 5:05AM - According to Water Data for Texas, Wichita Falls reservoirs are: Arrowhead: 94.1% Kemp: 100% Kickapoo: 98.3%. Monitored Water Supply Reservoirs are 97.3% full. The City of Wichita Falls uses combined levels of Arrowhead and Kickapoo (96.2%) to determine drought stage.
08-06-2025 - 5:10 AM - ERCOT (Texas) snapshot of grid conditions - ERCOT reports that conditions are normal and there is enough power for current demand with an operating reserve of 10,385 Megawatts.
08-06-2025 - 5:15 AM -Wichita Falls NWS Forecast - Today: Sunny and hot, with a high near 97. Heat index values as high as 104. South wind 7 to 11 mph. Tonight: Clear, with a low around 75. South southeast wind 9 to 11 mph.

08-06-2025 - 5:30 AM - Whenever I drive on 10th Street between Scott and Indiana, I wonder if the City is getting a kickback from area automotive front-end alignment businesses. Go there and you'll see, or feel, what I'm talking about.
08-06-2025 - 5:40 AM - One of the Family Radio Servicefrequencies is currently active. It sounds like business use. I can tell it's FRS by the "roger beep" after each transmission. That's not the most pleasing sound at this hour. Every other radio service in the VHF-UHF range gets along fine without the beep. Perhaps these individuals are unaware of how to turn it off.

08-06-2025 - 10:30 AM - From the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics - Economics Daily - From September 2024 to December 2024, gross job gains from opening and expanding private-sector establishments were 7.8 million. Gross job gains at expanding establishments totaled 6.1 million jobs in the fourth quarter of 2024, while opening establishments accounted for 1.6 million of the jobs gained. Over this 3-month period, gross job losses from closing and contracting private-sector establishments were 7.5 million. Contracting establishments lost 6.0 million jobs and closing establishments lost 1.5 million jobs.
08-06-2025 - 11:00 AM - According to one news report, the U.S. National Weather Service has begun rehiring hundreds of workers who were fired during the DOGE-related cutbacks. I didn't read the story. I have no public opinion on this issue. On a not-so-similar note, I picked up two bags of Pawnee pecans today at the Pecan Shed on Midwestern Parkway.
08-06-2025 - 12:10 PM - Well over a decade ago, the Sunday night net on the 147.140 MHz repeater was canceled at the last minute due to a glitch with the repeater itself. I thought it would be a good idea to call the net on the output frequency of the repeater, since that’s where people were listening. I thought it would be a great way to test the simplex capability of everyone involved. The no-notice aspect of the repeater's loss would have added even more value to the test. I was not, nor am I now, a member of the repeater club, so I didn’t offer my suggestion. Apparently, no one else thought about it.
08-06-2025 - 1:45 PM - I heard another short convo on 151.940 MHz (The Multi-Use Radio Service) this afternoon. This time, there was a small clue as to what business these users might be engaged in. I'll hold on to that for now and continue to monitor. Maybe I'll get to add it to the frequency list soon.
08-06-2025 - 2:10 PM - There are a handful of stations on the Amateur (ham) Radio Parks on the Air® spotter page, but the 20-meter band is not being very cooperative right now. I'll check back later. Besides, the Texas Rangers are on with an early game today.
08-06-2025 - 3:00 PM - WFISD school bus drivers are headed out to pick up the little angels and take them home. Listen in on 152.360 MHz. Hirschi Middle School started its year on Monday. The rest of the district starts on Aug 14th.
08-05-2025 - 5:30 AM - Good Morning! It's Tuesday, and the Clay County Amateur Radio Club conducts a weekly Skywarn® practice net on Tuesdays at 8:00 PM on the 146.800 MHz repeater. Tune in with your scanner radio. On the CB Radio, the band is trying to open with DX traffic already heard on Channel 10. Channel 10 and not Channel 6? Unbelievable! On the scanner radio, the Allred Unit (153.815 MHz) is awake. Walmart (154.570 MHz) and the school buses (152.360 MHz) should be on the air soon. My Folgers Black Silk coffee is ready.
08-05-2025 - 5:40 AM -Wichita Falls NWS Forecast - Today: Sun ny, with a high near 95. Heat index values as high as 98. Light south southeast wind becoming southeast 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Tonight: Clear, with a low around 73. South southeast wind 8 to 10 mph.
